“It’s about time that we make a stand and start playing together in our own band” – It is indeed. Frankie & the Heartstrings kept the promise made in their single Hunger from their recently released debut album and they will be playing at the Magnet tonight.
They have quite a unique style which wobbles somewhere between the 80s new wave of Hunger, 60s rock ‘n’ roll on Possibilities and brit pop. They refer to themsleves as “A Brand New Old-Fashioned Pop Band From Sunderland”. They also look a little old fashioned if you ask me. Not that that’s a bad thing though, I like quiffs. In short, they’re a little like The Vaccines, just a whole lot better!
Personally, I first heard of them when they gave away Possibilities as a free download, which I highly recommend. I also recommend going to their gig tonight because this band is not a nine-days wonder and when they come back they wil be playing bigger venues for a lot more money.
Here’s the video for Hunger.
